Compared with Slovenia's traditional football institutions, NK Bravo is a relatively young club. It was founded on 28 February 2006 in the Šiška district of Ljubljana, after local parents of schoolchildren persuaded sports journalist Darko Klarič to set up a team - an origin that also gave rise to the club's nickname, Šiškarji.

For its first years Bravo operated primarily as a community youth club, gradually building a senior team and climbing through the lower tiers of the Slovenian league system. The breakthrough came in the 2018-19 season, when a run of 13 wins in 15 home matches secured the club's first-ever promotion to the top-flight PrvaLiga.

Since then Bravo has established itself as a permanent fixture of Slovenian top-flight football, regularly finishing in the middle of the table. In the 2024-25 season the club also made its European debut: in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers, Bravo eliminated Welsh side Connah's Quay Nomads before being knocked out by Bosnian club HŠK Zrinjski Mostar.

The club places strong emphasis on youth development, running junior sides across more than ten age groups and organising the annual Ljubljana OPEN tournament for under-14 players. The yellow-and-blues play their home matches at Športni park Šiška in their home district, though growing success has also seen them use the larger Stožice Stadium, shared with NK Olimpija Ljubljana.

From a club founded by parents and a local journalist to a stable PrvaLiga side with European experience, Bravo's story stands out as one of the more notable examples of grassroots football growth in Slovenia over the past two decades.
