Hertha BSC is one of Berlin's oldest and most recognisable football clubs. Founded in 1892, Hertha won the German championship in 1930 and 1931 and remained one of the capital's most important sporting institutions for generations. The club's name was inspired by a steamship on which one of its founders travelled across the Baltic Sea.
Hertha has a particularly strong connection with the Olympiastadion, a venue deeply linked with Berlin's sporting history. The club has also endured difficult periods, including several relegations from the Bundesliga, but remains one of the capital's biggest clubs in terms of support and potential. Die Alte Dame play their home matches at the monumental Olympiastadion.
