SC Freiburg came from behind to defeat Motherwell FC 3–1 away at Fir Park in the first leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League playoff round. The Scottish side made a perfect start, with Regan Charles-Cook opening the scoring in the second minute after an assist from Emmanuel Longelo. Freiburg gradually took control and levelled the score in the 28th minute through Matthias Ginter, who headed home after a cross from Derry Scherhant. Ginter struck again in the 65th minute, converting a penalty to put the German side ahead. The situation became even more difficult for Motherwell when Martin Moormann was sent off in the same minute following a VAR review, leaving the hosts with ten men. Freiburg eventually made their numerical advantage count, with substitute Keisuke Goto heading home from a Vincenzo Grifo corner in the sixth minute of stoppage time.
