Liverpool FC Liverpool FC was founded in 1892 out of unusual circumstances โ born from conflict rather than simple founding enthusiasm. John Houlding, owner of the Anfield ground, fell into a dispute with the Everton committee, who had played there until then, over a proposed rent increase. Everton moved to Goodison Park, and Houlding, left with an empty stadium, created a new club.
A defining moment in Liverpool's history came with the appointment of Bill Shankly as manager in December 1959. He found the club stuck in the Second Division and rebuilt it from the ground up, establishing the informal coaching-staff meeting place known as "the Boot Room". It was during his tenure that the Kop stand became a symbol of the club's supporters' power.
Liverpool have won the European Cup and Champions League six times โ in 1977, 1978, 1981, 1984, 2005 and 2019. The most memorable of these triumphs remains the 2005 final in Istanbul, when the team, trailing AC Milan 0-3 at half-time, fought back to win on penalties, a match remembered as the "Miracle of Istanbul".
The club's red colours and the anthem "You'll Never Walk Alone", sung by supporters before every match at Anfield, have become inseparable from Liverpool's identity, reaching far beyond football itself. The club remains one of the most decorated in the history of English football.
