Inter took the lead in the 22nd minute after a Vaduz own goal. The Finnish side controlled much of the first half, but Vaduz remained competitive and continued looking for an equaliser. Its efforts were rewarded in the 63rd minute, when Dejan Sorgić made the score 1–1. Inter responded quickly and restored its advantage five minutes later. Prosper Ahiabu scored in the 68th minute to give the hosts a 2–1 win. The result provided Inter Turku with a narrow lead before the return leg, although the tie was still finely balanced. The Finnish club eventually advanced after winning the two-legged contest 4–3 on aggregate.
