FC Copenhagen Founded relatively recently, on 1 July 1992, through a merger of two historic capital-city sides — Kjøbenhavns Boldklub (mainland Europe's oldest football club, founded in 1876) and Boldklubben 1903 — the club almost immediately assumed complete dominance over the domestic stage, winning the Danish championship in its very first season, 1992–93. The Lions, as the club and its supporters are known, went on to consistently capture further national titles and domestic cups, outpacing local rivals and contesting the highly prestigious, intensely passionate capital derbies against Brøndby IF, famously known as the New Firm. The club forged its true identity as a continental force at the Parken Stadium, which rapidly evolved into one of the most difficult fortresses to conquer in Europe.
To this day, FC Copenhagen remains the record-holder of Danish football, with 16 national championships and 10 Danish Cups. The club's true pride, however, lies in its spectacular campaigns in the UEFA Champions League, where the squad regularly challenges the wealthiest clubs in world football. As the only Danish side in history to do so, FCK has multiple times secured qualification for the knockout stages of the elite competition, taking points off giants such as Manchester City and Galatasaray along the way. Legendary status was earned by the 4–3 win over Manchester United in the 2023–24 campaign, when Copenhagen came back from two goals down, sealing the victory with a goal from a then 17-year-old Rasmus Højlund among the scorers — a result that paved the way for a historic run to the round of 16, where the side faced defending champions Manchester City.
