Inter Turku FC Inter Turku is one of the most recognisable football clubs in Finland, founded in 1990 by businessman Stefan Håkans. A year after its formation, the club took the place of the financially struggling local side Turun Toverit in the second division, and in the following years steadily climbed the Finnish football pyramid.
The club's greatest achievement came in 2008, when it won its only Veikkausliiga championship to date. The architect of that triumph was Dutch coach Job Dragtsma, with midfielder Mika Ojala among the standout contributors of the title-winning campaign. The club, which has also finished as league runner-up on several occasions, added two Finnish Cup triumphs to its honours list – in 2009 and in 2018, when Inter beat HJK Helsinki 1-0 in the final. The hero of that campaign was forward Benjamin Källman, while the club's leading league scorer that season was Timo Furuholm, one of the most recognisable strikers in the club's history.
Inter Turku plays its home matches at the Veritas Stadion, opened in 1952, which it shares with local rival TPS Turku. Matches between the two sides form one of Finland's best-known local derbies, known as the Turun derby.
The club's official nickname is Sinimustat ("The Blue and Blacks"), reflecting its colours. Inter Turku remains a fixture of the Finnish top flight, regularly competing for the leading positions in the table and taking part in UEFA European qualifying rounds.
