Aarhus GF is one of the oldest and most deeply traditional sports clubs in Denmark. Founded in 1880, the team from the country's second-largest city — known to fans as "Hvide" (The Whites) — holds the Danish record with nine domestic cups. The club's golden years came in the 1950s and 1980s, when the side not only dominated the league but represented the country internationally, reaching the European Cup quarter-finals in 1961, where it fell to eventual champions Benfica, and repeating that feat in the Cup Winners' Cup in 1989.

After decades of crisis, painful relegations and the frustrating tag of a "sleeping giant," the Aarhus club wrote its finest chapter since the golden era in the 2025/26 season — AGF claimed its sixth Danish championship, its first since 1986, ending an almost forty-year title drought built on stable finances, smart club management and consistent, patient coaching work over several campaigns.

That renaissance coincides with the construction of a brand-new, football-specific stadium, the "Forest Arena," set to replace the old ground that closed for good in December 2024 — until it opens, the team plays at a temporary venue in suburban Vejlby. The age-old rivalry with Aalborg BK, known as the "Battle of Jutland," remains one of Danish football's oldest and fiercest local derbies, dating all the way back to the 1880s.
