SL Benfica defeated Aarhus GF 3–1 at Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica in Lisbon in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League playoff round. The Portuguese side made an excellent start and took the lead through Rafa Silva in the second minute. Leandro Barreiro doubled Benfica's advantage in the 31st minute, but Aarhus quickly responded as Sebastian Jørgensen reduced the deficit five minutes later. Benfica restored their two-goal advantage just before half-time when Vangelis Pavlidis converted a penalty in the second minute of stoppage time. The second half brought no further goals, although Benfica continued to create opportunities and could have extended their lead. The 3–1 victory gives the Portuguese side a two-goal advantage ahead of the second leg at Randers Stadion in Denmark.
