Galatasaray SK Galatasaray SK, founded in 1905 by students of Galatasaray High School in Istanbul, is one of the most successful and recognisable clubs in the history of Turkish football. Cimbom, known for its distinctive red and yellow colours, has won 26 Turkish league titles and numerous domestic cups, making it the most successful club in the Süper Lig.
The greatest achievement in the club's history came in 2000, when Galatasaray became the first and, to date, only Turkish club to win official European trophies, lifting the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup. In the UEFA Cup final, the team beat Arsenal on penalties in Copenhagen, and a few months later triumphed over Real Madrid in the Super Cup, played in Monaco. Managed by Fatih Terim, and featuring players such as Hakan Şükür, Gheorghe Hagi, Bülent Korkmaz, and Cláudio Taffarel, the team created one of the most important chapters in Turkish football history. The 1999-2000 season also brought a domestic double of the league and the Turkish Cup, which, combined with the European trophies, gave the club a historic quadruple.
In later years, the club was represented by further world-class stars including Arda Turan, Didier Drogba, Wesley Sneijder, and Mauro Icardi. In the 2024-25 season, after winning its 25th league title, Galatasaray became the first Turkish club to earn the right to wear a fifth star on its jersey, and a year later, in 2025-26, added a 26th national championship to its record.
Galatasaray is known for its huge global fanbase, strong club identity, and the unique atmosphere during matches at Rams Park. The stadium, previously known as Türk Telekom Stadium, is one of the largest and most recognisable football venues in Turkey.
