Konyaspor are a club that, after ninety-five years of waiting, finally won the first major trophy in their history, only to come agonisingly close to a second title less than a decade later. The club was founded on 22 June 1922, though it took its modern form only in 1981, following a merger with Konya Gençlerbirliği, when it adopted the green-and-white colours reflecting the region's cultural and natural heritage.
For most of their history, Konyaspor remained a club of modest ambitions, moving between the top two divisions of Turkish football. The breakthrough came only in the 2016/17 season, when the side, known today as the Anadolu Kartalı (Anatolian Eagle), won the Turkish Cup, defeating İstanbul Başakşehir in the final - the club's first and, to date, only major cup success, which earned them a debut appearance in the Europa League group stage. Another chance at glory came on 22 May 2026, when Konyaspor once again reached the Turkish Cup final, this time facing Trabzonspor at Corendon Airlines Park in Antalya. After a goal from Paul Onuachu put their opponents ahead in the 18th minute, Konyaspor equalised after the break through Jackson Muleka, but a decisive penalty converted by the Trabzonspor forward in the 79th minute sealed a 2-1 win for the Bordeaux-Blues.
Konyaspor have played their home matches since 2014 at the municipal stadium in Konya, which can hold more than forty-two thousand spectators and is renowned for the passionate atmosphere created by local supporters. Deeply rooted in the regional identity of central Anatolia, the club has, after years of instability between divisions, established a stable position in the Süper Lig, becoming one of the more recognisable Turkish sides from outside the country's major Istanbul clubs.
