Feyenoord Rotterdam For more than a century, Feyenoord Rotterdam has been one of the defining symbols of football in Rotterdam. The club's story began on 19 July 1908, when a group of young enthusiasts met at café De Vereeniging to found a team called Wilhelmina; after several further name changes, it settled in 1912 on SC Feijenoord, taking its name from the working-class district on Rotterdam's south bank.
De Stadionclub made European history in 1970 by becoming the first Dutch club to win the European Cup, beating Celtic in the final, and completed the achievement that same year by lifting the Intercontinental Cup against Estudiantes — the first Dutch side to hold a world club title. The club later added two UEFA Cup triumphs, in 1974 against Tottenham Hotspur and in 2002 against Borussia Dortmund, the latter won on home soil.
Domestically, Feyenoord has won the Eredivisie 16 times, most recently in 2022–23, along with 14 KNVB Cups. The club is equally known for its fiercely loyal supporters, whose intense home atmosphere has become an integral part of its identity.
Since 1937, Feyenoord has played at Stadion Feijenoord, universally known as De Kuip ("The Tub") for the distinctive bowl shape of its stands — a name that has endured for nearly nine decades, regardless of any sponsorship terms attached to the club over the years.
