Ferencvárosi Torna Club, founded in 1899 in Budapest, remains the most successful club in the history of Hungarian football. Commonly known as Ferencváros or Fradi, the team has amassed 36 national league titles and 24 Hungarian Cups, placing it firmly at the top of the all-time domestic standings. The club's domestic dominance has been built over decades, with key historical high points occurring in the 1930s, 1960s, and the turn of the 2020s. Over the years, the squad has featured pivotal figures of Hungarian football, including Flórián Albert — Hungary's sole Ballon d'Or winner, in 1967 — as well as, earlier, Sándor Kocsis and Zoltán Czibor, who began their careers at Ferencváros before the communist regime forced their move to rivals Honvéd, where they later became heroes of Hungary's legendary "Mighty Magyars."

On the international stage, Ferencváros stands out as the only Hungarian club to have won a major European trophy. In 1965, the team secured the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup by defeating Juventus 1–0 in the final. Their continental track record also includes reaching the finals of the same competition in 1968 and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1975, where they fell to Dynamo Kyiv. In the modern era, Ferencváros became the first Hungarian representative to reach the UEFA Champions League group stage during the 1995/1996 season, collecting 5 points in a group containing Real Madrid and Ajax.

The club's modern phase is defined above all by an unbroken run of domestic success. Starting with the 2018/2019 season, Ferencváros put together a record streak of seven consecutive league titles, through 2024/2025, guided over that period by managers such as Serhiy Rebrov, Stanislav Cherchesov, Dejan Stanković, and finally Robbie Keane. That streak came to an end only in May 2026, when the title passed to Győri ETO. During this period the team regularly qualified for the main stages of the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League, notably advancing to the Europa League round of 16 in the 2022/2023 season. Fixtures at the Groupama Aréna have for years drawn the highest average attendance in the Hungarian top flight.
