SC União Torreense (Sport Clube União Torreense) is an integral part of the sporting identity of Torres Vedras and the broader Oeste region. Founded on 1 May 1917 under the original name Sport União Torreense, the club emerged from local passion and community spirit. From its earliest days, the distinctive blue and red kit became a symbol of a team deeply connected to its town and local working-class roots.

The epicenter of football in Torres Vedras is the Estádio Manuel Marques, originally opened in 1926 under the name Campo das Covas before later being named in honour of a dedicated club figure. For decades, this venue has served as the club's historic home, enduring various renovations while preserving its traditional atmosphere. It was during the 1950s that Torreense experienced its first major golden era, earning promotion to the top-flight Primeira Divisão and securing consecutive 7th-place finishes in the 1955–56 and 1956–57 seasons.

The most notable historical chapter in the club's domestic cup record came in 1956, when Torreense reached the final of the Portuguese Cup (Taça de Portugal) for the first time, finishing as runners-up to FC Porto at the Estádio Nacional. Although the club has spent a total of just six seasons in Portugal's top division (most recently in 1991–92), it has built a strong reputation across the upper tiers of the Portuguese league system. Over the years, prominent figures have worn the blue and red shirt, including former Portuguese international Carlos Manuel, as well as skilled performers such as Hernâni and goalkeeper Félix.

Today, SC União Torreense maintains a solid and ambitious presence in Liga Portugal 2, constantly modernizing its infrastructure while honoring its long history. Grounded in over a century of tradition and supported by a passionate fanbase in Torres Vedras, the club remains an enduring institution in regional and national Portuguese football.
