FC Sion Founded in 1909, FC Sion is one of the most recognisable football clubs in Switzerland, representing the canton of Valais and playing its home matches at Stade Tourbillon in the town of Sion. Throughout its history, the team has won 2 Swiss league titles, in the 1991/1992 and 1996/1997 seasons, while also establishing a unique position on the domestic cup scene. For decades, the club was regarded as a specialist in the Swiss Cup, winning the trophy 13 times. The exceptional run of 13 consecutive final victories was finally ended in 2017 after a defeat to FC Basel.
From a statistical and organisational perspective, FC Sion is characterised by considerable squad instability, influenced by the long-term presidency of Christian Constantin. Since he took control of the club, there have been regular changes in the position of head coach. Over the course of two decades, the team was managed by more than 50 coaches, including figures such as Gennaro Gattuso and Paolo Tramezzani. This instability contributed to fluctuating results in league competitions. In the 21st century, the team average in the Swiss Super League often ranged between 1.1 and 1.3 points per match, placing the club mainly in the middle or lower parts of the table.

After being relegated to the Challenge League at the end of the 2022/2023 season, the club underwent a sporting reorganisation and quickly returned to the top flight, winning the second tier with nearly 80 points in a single season.
