Burnley FC Burnley FC is one of the oldest clubs in English football. Founded in 1882 after a local rugby club switched codes, Burnley soon became one of the founder members of the Football League. The club have won two English league titles, with the first arriving in 1920/21 after an extraordinary run of 30 league matches without defeat. Burnley also lifted the FA Cup in 1914.
The club’s claret-and-blue colours and Turf Moor have been part of its identity for generations. The ground, which has hosted Burnley football since the 19th century, is among the oldest continuously used stadiums in English football. The Clarets therefore represent a tradition built not on enormous financial resources, but on longevity, local identity and the ability to compete with much larger clubs.
