Girondins de Bordeaux FC Girondins de Bordeaux is one of the oldest and most historic football clubs in France, established on 1 October 1881. Based in Aquitaine, the club traditionally wears navy blue and white shirts featuring a distinctive chevron (V-shape) across the chest. The team is commonly known as 'Les Marine et Blanc' (The Navy and Whites) or 'Les Girondins'.
The club's home stadium is the 42,115-capacity Matmut Atlantique (Stade de Bordeaux), which opened in 2015 and replaced the historic Stade Chaban-Delmas. In domestic football, Girondins de Bordeaux has won 6 French league titles (Ligue 1) in 1950, 1984, 1985, 1987, 1999, and 2009. The club has also captured 4 Coupe de France trophies and 3 Coupe de la Ligue titles. Prominent eras in the club's history include the 1980s under manager Aimé Jacquet featuring stars like Alain Giresse and Jean Tigana, the mid-1990s side starring Zinedine Zidane, Bixente Lizarazu, and Christophe Dugarry, and the 2008–09 title-winning team managed by Laurent Blanc, which featured Yoann Gourcuff, Marouane Chamakh, and Cédric Carrasso.
In European competitions, Girondins de Bordeaux reached the final of the 1995–96 UEFA Cup (after qualifying through the UEFA Intertoto Cup), finishing as runners-up to Bayern Munich. The club also reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League during the 2009–10 season.
Following severe financial crises and administrative restructuring between 2021 and 2024, the club relinquished its professional status and was demoted to the lower divisions of the French football league system.
