FC Utrecht was created in 1970 through the merger of three clubs from the city of Utrecht and has remained a familiar presence in the Dutch top flight ever since. The red-and-white side developed a strong identity of its own, with victories in the KNVB Cup and appearances in European competitions among the highlights of its history. Utrecht is one of the few clubs outside the traditional Dutch elite to have established itself as a long-term Eredivisie presence. The club plays its home matches at Stadion Galgenwaard, located in the heart of the Netherlands.
