Puszcza Niepołomice are a club whose history began with two teams operating in parallel. In the spring of 1923, a sports club called Niepołomianka was founded in Niepołomice on the initiative of the town's then mayor Andrzej Wimer and a group of local organisers. At almost the same time, the town was also home to the Jewish Sports Club Puszcza, which existed until 1926, when the two teams merged. After the Second World War the club reverted to the name Puszcza, under which it still competes today.
For most of its history, Puszcza remained a club of purely local significance, and the turning point came only after 2015, when coach Tomasz Tułacz, a product of Subcarpathian football and a former Poland youth international, took charge of the team. His long and, by Polish standards, exceptionally stable tenure led to the club's gradual climb through the divisions. The culmination of the club's centenary came in the 2022/23 season, when Puszcza faced Bruk-Bet Termalica Nieciecza in the Ekstraklasa promotion play-off final. After a dramatic match in which the hosts led 2-1 before Puszcza equalised at 2-2 from a penalty in the 61st minute, the historic promotion was sealed by a goal from Konrad Stępień in the 99th minute of extra time - Puszcza won 3-2 and, for the first time in their hundred-year history, secured a place in the top flight.
With the stadium in Niepołomice failing to meet licensing requirements, the Wisents played their home matches during their first top-flight season at Cracovia's ground in Kraków. Widely tipped for relegation before the season began, the club nevertheless survived, and in the 2024/25 season even reached the semi-finals of the Polish Cup, eliminating Polonia Warszawa in the quarter-finals along the way. Today the modernised Municipal Stadium in Niepołomice, opened in 2015, ranks among the smallest venues in Polish football, making Puszcza one of the most intimate clubs at the top level of the national game.
