Rukh Brest Rukh Brest was a Belarusian football club founded in 2016 as an amateur side in Brest, a city located on the border with Poland. Within a relatively short time, the team rose from the lower divisions to the country's top flight, reaching the Belarusian Premier League, where it competed in the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
The club's best result in its short history came in the 2021 season, when it finished fifth in the table and recorded a league-record 7-1 victory over Isloch Minsk Raion. Rukh played its home matches at the Regional Sport Complex Brestsky, a venue shared with local rivals Dynamo Brest.
The club's story, however, ended almost as quickly as it began. On 28 February 2022, Rukh Brest withdrew from the league, citing serious financial difficulties stemming from international sanctions imposed on the club's owner, Alexander Zaytsev, and an undisclosed Russian company that co-owned the club. Although the club initially stated its intention to continue competing in a lower division, the senior team was ultimately disbanded shortly after the season's fixture list was drawn up.
The club's youth section survived the crisis and continued its activities under a new name, Football Center Brest, joining the Belarusian Second League in 2023. Although Rukh Brest's history as a senior club lasted only a few years, its rapid rise into the Belarusian top flight, followed by an equally sudden end, remains one of the more striking examples of how geopolitical events have shaped the fate of sports clubs in the region.
