Dynamo Brest FC Dynamo Brest is a Belarusian football club founded in 1960 under the name Spartak Brest, joining the Soviet Class B, the second tier of Soviet football, that same year. Over the following decades the team struggled with an unstable league position, twice — in 1964 and 1967 — losing decisive promotion play-offs before finally securing promotion in 1969. The club also changed its name repeatedly: in 1972 it became Bug Brest, and in 1976 it adopted its current name, Dynamo Brest, a reference to the Soviet Dynamo sports society.
The team plays its home matches at the venue now known as the Regional Sport Complex Brestsky, whose history dates back to 1937; the ground previously operated under the names Spartak Stadium (until 1972) and Dinamo Stadium (1972–1999), before undergoing thorough reconstruction in the late 1990s.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Dynamo Brest became a permanent fixture of independent Belarus's top flight, though for a long time it remained in the shadow of the clubs dominating the domestic scene from the capital and Borisov. Its first major success came in 2007 with victory in the Belarusian Cup, a triumph that also earned the club its only European appearance to that point, in the UEFA Cup. Further domestic cup triumphs followed in 2017 and 2018.
A turning point in the club's history came in the 2019 season, when the team won the Belarusian championship for the first time, ending the long-running title streak of defending champions BATE Borisov. The success earned Dynamo Brest its debut in the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds. During the 2012 season the team competed temporarily as FC Brest amid a legal dispute over rights to the Dynamo brand name, claimed by the Belarusian Dynamo Sport Society; the matter was resolved before the end of that same year.
