Vestri ÍsafjörðurÍþróttafélagið Vestri, commonly known as Vestri, is a multi-sport club representing the Westfjords region, formally established on 16 January 2016 through the merger of several smaller entities, including the football section BÍ/Bolungarvík, basketball club KFÍ, volleyball club Skellur, and swimming club Sundfélagið Vestri. The football side's roots, however, trace back to 1986, when it was founded as the football department of Badmintonfélag Ísafjarðar (BÍ).
Based in the town of Ísafjörður, the football team spent decades working its way up the Icelandic league pyramid, securing promotion to the second-tier 1. deild karla in 2019 after a 7–0 win over Tindastóll on the final day of the season. The true turning point in the club's history, however, came on 30 September 2023, when, under manager Davíð Smári Lamude, the team defeated higher-seeded Afturelding in the promotion play-off final, securing a historic first-ever place in the top flight, Besta deild karla.
The club's most significant achievement to date came on 22 August 2025, when Vestri defeated favourites Valur 1–0 in the Icelandic Cup final, winning the first major trophy in its history. The triumph opened the door to European competition for the first time, securing the club a place in UEFA Europa League qualifying. Despite this success, the 2025 league season ended in relegation from the Besta deild karla, with the team finishing second from bottom of the table.
The team plays its home matches at Kerecisvöllurinn in Ísafjörður, a 1,596-capacity stadium set against the backdrop of a fjord and surrounding mountains. The proximity to the ocean means difficult, windy conditions are a regular feature of matches there. Owing to its remote geographical location, the club has faced demanding travel logistics since its earliest years, relying heavily on domestic flights or lengthy road trips for away fixtures.
