Vestri Ísafjörður Íþróttafélagið Vestri, commonly known as Vestri, is a club representing the Westfjords region, established in 2016 through the merger of several smaller entities, including BÍ/Bolungarvík. Based in the town of Ísafjörður, the team spent its initial years competing mostly in the second and third tiers of Icelandic football. Due to its remote geographical location, the club has faced demanding logistical and climatic challenges since its inception.
The turning point in the club's history came during the 2023 season, when the team, led by manager Davíð Smári Lamprin, secured promotion to the Icelandic top flight, Besta deildin. The squad earned its promotion by winning the promotion play-offs, defeating the higher-seeded Afturelding in the final. This milestone marked the club's debut at the highest level of national football and required a structural reorganization.
The team plays its home matches at Torfnesvöllur in Ísafjörður, a stadium characterized by its distinctive geographical setting adjacent to a fjord and a mountain range. The proximity to the ocean means that difficult, windy conditions are a regular occurrence during matches.
