FC RFS Amidst the rapidly evolving landscape of Latvian football, Riga-based FK RFS (Rīgas Futbola Skola) has emerged as a powerhouse of the modern era, reshaping the traditional hierarchy in the capital. Descended from a youth academy founded in 2005, the club has operated in its current form since 2016, when it inherited Skonto FC's Virslīga spot after that club's licence was revoked. Since then, RFS has won the Latvian championship three times (2021, 2023, 2024) and the Latvian Cup three times as well.
A historic European night arrived on 23 January 2025, when RFS beat Ajax Amsterdam 1–0 at home, Adam Markhiev scoring the winner in the 78th minute — the first-ever win by a Latvian club in the league phase of a European competition. That result built on an equally landmark achievement: RFS became the first Latvian club to reach the group stage of the UEFA Conference League, back in 2022.
