Riga FC Riga FC is a club from the Latvian capital whose history at the top level of national football is short but exceptionally intense. The team was formed in 2014 through the merger of FC Caramba and Dinamo Rīga, and won the second division in 2015, earning promotion to the top flight. The club has played in the Virslīga since 2016.
The breakthrough came quickly. Between 2018 and 2020, Riga FC won three consecutive Latvian championships. The club then had to wait until 2025 for its next title, which was secured with two rounds to spare after a 0–0 draw against FK Tukums 2000, following three seasons in which the club had finished runner-up. In total, Riga FC now holds four Latvian league titles: 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2025.
The club has also won the Latvian Cup twice. The first triumph came in 2018, when Riga FC beat FK Ventspils on penalties in the final. The second victory followed in 2023, when the final against RFS ended 1–1 after extra time, with Riga FC winning the penalty shoot-out 5–3. In 2025, the team reached the final again but lost 1–2 to FK Auda.
European competition has become an important part of the club's development. Riga FC first appeared in UEFA Europa League qualifying in the 2018–19 season. An even bigger success followed the next year: in 2019, the Latvian side reached the Europa League play-off round, where they faced FC København. The tie finished level on aggregate at 1–1 — each side winning its home leg — with the Danish club advancing on the away-goals rule.
Riga FC's home ground is the Skonto Stadium, opened in 2000 in the centre of the capital and also used by the Latvian national team. Historically, the venue was associated above all with Skonto FC, the most decorated club in the history of independent Latvian football. Riga FC's traditional colours are light blue and white.
In 2024, Riga FC also won the Latvian Super Cup, beating RFS on penalties — the club's first trophy in the newly revived competition. In February 2026, the club won the Super Cup again, this time defeating FK Auda 4–1.
The history of Riga FC illustrates the remarkably rapid rise of a new club. In little more than a decade since its formation, the team has gone from the second tier of Latvian football to four league titles, two domestic cups and a regular presence in European qualifying rounds. In 2026, the club received the UEFA licence entitling it to enter Champions League qualifying as the reigning Latvian champion.
