FK Sūduva FK Sūduva is a Lithuanian football club from Marijampolė, operating under its current name since 1968, though its roots trace back to earlier sides that repeatedly changed names during the Soviet era under the sponsorship of local enterprises. The club's name refers to Sūduva (Suvalkija), the historical and cultural region of which Marijampolė is considered the centre.
For decades, Sūduva remained a secondary force in Lithuanian football, and its first significant trophy — the Lithuanian Cup — did not come until 2006, a success it repeated in 2009. The real breakthrough, however, came in 2017, when the club won the Lithuanian championship, the A Lyga, for the first time in its history, going on to defend the title in the following two seasons, 2018 and 2019. The 2019 campaign proved the most successful in the club's history: Sūduva swept all three major domestic titles — the league, the Cup and the Super Cup — while also setting a record points tally in the league.
The club's greatest international achievement remains the 2017-18 season, when Sūduva became only the third Lithuanian club in history — after Žalgiris Vilnius and FK Ekranas — to pass three qualifying rounds in European competition, eliminating Belarus's Shakhtyor Soligorsk, Latvia's Liepāja and Switzerland's FC Sion along the way. On its run towards the Europa League group stage, the club also recorded a notable win over Israel's Maccabi Tel Aviv, before eventually being eliminated in the play-offs by Hungary's Ferencváros.
The team, nicknamed Sūduviečiai (Sudovians) and playing in white and red, plays its home matches at the Marijampolė Arena, opened in 2008. The club's success has also been shaped by figures such as Japanese midfielder Keisuke Honda, who joined the Lithuanian side after his career at AC Milan, drawing international attention to a small club from the Suvalkija region.
