Real Madrid claimed their sixth European Cup title with a 2–1 victory over Partizan Beograd in the 1966 final, played at Heysel Stadium in Brussels on 11 May 1966. The Yugoslav side took the lead in the 55th minute when Velibor Vasović headed home from a cross by Milan Galić. The advantage lasted just 15 minutes before Amancio equalised for the Spanish champions with a left-footed shot in the 70th minute.

nThe decisive goal came in the 76th minute through Fernando Serena, whose right-footed strike secured the trophy for Real Madrid. The match, attended by 46,745 spectators, was officiated by West German referee Rudolf Kreitlein. This victory marked the culmination of a dominant era for the Madrid side, who had previously won the competition five times since its inception in 1955.

Partizan, managed by Stanislav Popescu, entered the match as underdogs but displayed remarkable organisation and defensive discipline throughout the first hour. The Belgrade club had eliminated several strong opponents en route to the final, including Nantes and Werder Bremen. Despite the defeat, this remains the only European Cup final appearance in the history of the Serbian club.
