Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City defeated FC Porto 2–0 in the opening matchday of the UEFA Champions League league phase. The Norwegian forward broke the deadlock shortly after halftime, in the 47th minute, following an assist from Enzo Fernández.

Enzo Maresca's side controlled the second half and limited their opponents to few clear chances. Haaland added his second goal deep into stoppage time, in the 90+1st minute, finishing first-time after a pass from Rayan Aït-Nouri down the left flank.
