Maccabi Tel Aviv, founded in 1906, is the most successful club in Israeli football history โ a record 26 league titles (most recently back-to-back in 2023/24 and 2024/25) and the distinction of being the only Israeli club never relegated from the top flight.
The most unusual chapter in the club's history dates to 1969, when โ at a time Israel still belonged to the Asian confederation (AFC) rather than UEFA โ Maccabi became the first Israeli club to win an international trophy, beating South Korea's Yang Chi in extra time to lift the Asian Champion Club Tournament. After the Israeli federation joined UEFA in the 1990s, the club twice reached the Champions League group stage โ in 2004/05 and 2015/16, when it faced Chelsea, FC Porto and Dynamo Kyiv.
The Yellow-and-Blues play their home matches at Bloomfield Stadium in Tel Aviv, and their age-old rivalry with Hapoel Tel Aviv ranks among the oldest and fiercest derbies in Israeli football.
