TSC Bačka Topola In Serbian football, dominated for decades by the Belgrade giants Crvena zvezda and Partizan, there has been little room for surprises. Yet in the small northern town of Bačka Topola, a project emerged that disrupted that balance of power. FK TSC Bačka Topola is today one of the best-organised and most modern clubs in the whole of Serbia.
The club was founded on 10 February 1913 as Topolyai Sport Club, when Bačka Topola still belonged to Austria-Hungary. Over the decades the team changed its name and structure repeatedly – from the 1970s until the club's dissolution in 2003 it operated mainly as FK AIK Bačka Topola. After being revived in 2005, the breakthrough of the club's modern era came through support from the Hungarian government and private investment led by president János Zsemberi. On the back of solid financial backing, the club underwent thorough restructuring and, in the 2018–19 season, secured historic promotion to the Serbian SuperLiga, where it made its debut a year later.
Entry into the top flight was accompanied by rapid sporting growth, driven in large part by coach Zoltán Szabó, who died in December 2020. Having led the team since 2018, he shaped its offensive, uncompromising style of play. The club's greatest success arrived in the 2022–23 season, when coach Žarko Lazetić guided TSC to a runner-up finish in Serbia, splitting Crvena zvezda and Partizan in the standings. Key roles in that breakthrough campaign were played by prolific striker Petar Ratkov, later sold to RB Salzburg for a record fee in club history, and experienced midfielder Saša Jovanović.
The silver medal opened the door to Champions League qualifying and, ultimately, to a debut in the Europa League group stage in the 2023–24 season, where TSC faced West Ham United, SC Freiburg and Olympiacos. The team's great asset is the compact yet modern TSC Arena, opened in September 2021, holding 4,500 spectators and meeting UEFA category requirements, along with a thriving football academy that develops young talent from across the Vojvodina region. The club has firmly established itself among the league's front-runners and regularly represents Serbian football on the European stage.
