Floriana FC
Floriana FC is one of the most successful, oldest, and most prestigious football clubs in Malta, serving as a historical cornerstone of the nation's sporting heritage. Founded in 1894 in the town of Floriana, the club has been a continuous fixture at the highest level of Maltese football. The team traditionally plays in iconic green and white colors, earning them the famous nicknames Tal-Greens and Il-Furjani.
Over more than a century of competitive football, the club has accumulated an extraordinary collection of domestic silverware. Their historical honors list features 26 Maltese Premier League titles, 21 Maltese FA Trophies, and 2 Maltese Super Cups. These achievements place the club at the absolute pinnacle of domestic football history, while their fierce rivalry with neighboring Valletta FC—known as the Old Firm derby—remains the most celebrated fixture in the country.
While the club's iconic historical home is the Independence Ground in Floriana, primary domestic league and cup fixtures are routinely held at the central Ta' Qali National Stadium in Attard.
On the European stage, Floriana FC holds a memorable place in national history. In the 1993/1994 season, they eliminated Lithuanian champions FK Ekranas in the preliminary round of the UEFA Champions League, becoming the first Maltese club to reach the first round proper of the modern competition format. Across various eras, the club has regularly featured in European qualifiers against elite continental sides such as FC Porto, Borussia Dortmund, and Inter Milan. Renowned Maltese internationals including Raymond Xuereb, Brian Said, and Justin Haber have prominently represented the green-and-whites.
Today, Floriana FC remains an ambitious force in Maltese football, consistently striving for domestic championships and European qualification grounded in over a century of tradition.
