FC Aktobe is a Kazakh football club founded in 1967 under the name Aktyubinets. Over its more than half-century of history, the club has changed its name several times — to Aktobemunai in 1996, to Aktobe a year later, to Aktobe-Lento in 2000, before permanently reverting to the name Aktobe in 2005. Even during the Soviet era, the team won the Soviet Second League twice, in 1981 and 1991.

The club's golden era came between 2005 and 2013, when Aktobe won the Kazakhstan championship five times, becoming the dominant force in domestic football during that decade. The club's honours also include one Kazakhstan Cup and three national Super Cup triumphs. The team, playing in distinctive red and white colours and nicknamed the Red and Whites, plays its home matches at the Central Stadium, opened in 1975 and holding nearly 13,000 spectators — one of the first football venues in the USSR built without a running track.

Thanks to its consistent league success, Aktobe took part in European competition without interruption for eleven consecutive years around the turn of the 2010s, playing 46 international matches during that period. Among the most memorable encounters were two-legged ties against Ukraine's Dynamo Kyiv and Romania's Steaua Bucharest, as well as a historic 4–0 victory over Iceland's Haukar from Hafnarfjörður in Champions League qualifying in the 2009–10 season — the club's best-ever result in European competition. On several occasions Aktobe came close to reaching the group stage of the continent's premier tournament, though it never managed to break through.

Among the club's supporters, a particularly notable place is held by the organised fan group known as 13 Sector, which remains one of the most recognisable supporter movements in Kazakh football. Despite fluctuating form in recent years, Aktobe is still regarded as one of the most successful clubs in the history of independent Kazakhstan.
