Dinamo City Tirana FK Dinamo City is one of the most decorated clubs in Albanian football history. The club was founded on 3 March 1950 in Tirana as Dinamo Tirana, established by the Interior Ministry of Enver Hoxha's communist regime - in keeping with the pattern seen elsewhere in the Eastern Bloc, where clubs named Dinamo were traditionally linked to state security services.
From its very first years the team dominated the domestic game, winning four consecutive Albanian championships between 1950 and 1953. During this period Dinamo set a record of 25 consecutive league wins, which remains the longest such streak in Albanian football history. Over the following decades the club competed for domestic supremacy chiefly with Partizani Tirana, linked in turn to the Ministry of Defence - between 1947 and 1964 the two clubs shared almost all the championship titles between them.
In total Dinamo has won 18 Albanian championships, making it the second most decorated club in the country after local rivals KF Tirana. The most recent of those titles came in the 2009-10 season.
The club's history is closely tied to Albania's political past. Following the fall of communism and a series of organisational and ownership changes, Dinamo Tirana was transformed into FK Dinamo City, combining the club's historic identity with a more modern image. Among supporters, the team is still known by the nicknames Dinamovitët and Nëndetësja Blu (the Blue Submarine).
The blue-and-whites play their home matches at the Selman Stërmasi Stadium in Tirana, a venue with a capacity of close to 9,800. Despite the name change and many years without a league title, Dinamo City remains one of the enduring symbols of football in the Albanian capital.
