KF Dukagjini from Klina is one of the clubs associated with the development of organised football in western Kosovo. Founded in 1958, the club spent much of its early history competing in regional and provincial competitions within the Yugoslav football system. Its name refers to Lekë Dukagjini, a medieval Albanian nobleman whose name is closely connected with the history of the region.

The most important achievement in Dukagjini's early history came in the 1993/94 season, when the club won the Kosovo championship in competitions organised outside the official Yugoslav football system. In the final, the Klina side defeated Flamurtari Prishtina 1–0. A year later, the club also won the Kosovo Super Cup, beating Prishtina on penalties. These achievements remain important parts of the club's historical identity and pre-independence football tradition.

After the Kosovo War, the club had to rebuild its position in domestic football. During the 21st century, Dukagjini gradually returned to the top level. In the 2020/21 season, Dukagjini reached the Kosovo Cup final, where it lost to Llapi on penalties. Reaching the final was one of the club's strongest domestic performances of that period.

The decisive moment in the club's recent history came in 2023, when KF Dukagjini made its debut in European competition. The first appearance came in the UEFA Europa Conference League first qualifying round against Europa FC of Gibraltar. Dukagjini won the first leg 2–1 in Pristina and followed it with a 3–2 victory in Gibraltar. The 5–3 aggregate success sent the Kosovan side into the second qualifying round.

The next opponent was HNK Rijeka. The Croatian club won the first leg in Pristina 1–0 before securing a 6–1 victory in the return match at Rujevica. For Dukagjini, however, the campaign remained historic: the club had made its European debut and recorded its first aggregate victory in UEFA competition. Eliminating Europa FC remains one of the most significant international achievements in the club's history.

A strong local identity is central to Dukagjini's character. Klina is a small town in western Kosovo, and the club has remained closely connected with the local community throughout its history. The team plays its home matches at 18 Qershori Stadium, its traditional home ground. The stadium did not meet UEFA requirements for the club's European debut, so Dukagjini played its first continental home matches at Fadil Vokrri Stadium in Pristina.

The presence of KF Dukagjini in Kosovo's top division and its arrival on the European stage represent further steps in a history that began in 1958. The club is not among Kosovo's most decorated sides, but its 1994 championship, Kosovo Super Cup and historic progress to the second qualifying round of the Europa Conference League underline its importance in the football history of western Kosovo.
