Videoton FC Fehérvár Videoton FC Fehérvár is a Hungarian football club from the city of Székesfehérvár, founded in 1941 under the name Székesfehérvári Vadásztölténygyár SK. The club adopted its most recognisable name after the state-owned electronics manufacturer Videoton, which produced televisions and other electronic equipment for export to Eastern Bloc countries, took over patronage of the team in the 1950s and 1960s. The club first reached the top flight in the 1968 season, only to be immediately relegated back to the lower division.
The club's golden era came in the mid-1980s. After finishing third in the league in 1984, Videoton embarked on a remarkable run in the UEFA Cup, eliminating Dukla Prague along the way and sensationally scoring four goals against Paris Saint-Germain at the French club's own stadium. In the next round, the team knocked out England's Manchester United on penalties, with Frank Stapleton and Arthur Albiston both missing their spot-kicks. The campaign culminated in the historic 1985 UEFA Cup final, in which Videoton faced Real Madrid — the first leg at the club's Sóstói Stadium drew 38,000 spectators, while the return leg at the Santiago Bernabéu attracted a crowd of 98,300. Despite winning the first leg 1–0, the Hungarians lost the return leg 0–3, handing Real Madrid the aggregate title 3–1.
After years of waiting, the club won its first Hungarian championship only in 2011, repeating the feat in 2015 and 2018. The club's honours also include two Hungarian Cup triumphs (2006 and 2019) and three victories in the now-defunct Hungarian League Cup. In recent years, the club has also competed in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League, in the 2012–13 and 2018–19 seasons.
Since 1967, the team has played its home matches at the Sóstói Stadium, thoroughly rebuilt and reopened in 2018. The club, nicknamed Vidi and playing in blue and red, has undergone numerous name changes in recent years tied to shifting title sponsors, before returning in 2025 to its historic and most recognisable name, Videoton.
