RSC Anderlecht RSC Anderlecht is one of the greatest clubs in Belgian football history and has been one of the country's defining sporting institutions for more than a century. The club was founded on 27 May 1908, when a group of football enthusiasts met at the Concordia café on Rue d'Aumale in Brussels.
Paars-wit (The Purple and Whites) hold the record for Belgian league titles, with 34, the last won in the 2016–17 season, as well as the record for five consecutive championships, achieved between 1963 and 1968 under coach Pierre Sinibaldi, with legendary forward Paul Van Himst in the side. The club has also won nine Belgian Cups.
Anderlecht's most successful period in European competition came during the 1970s and 1980s. The club won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup twice, beating West Ham United in the 1976 final and Austria Wien in 1978, and twice claimed the UEFA Super Cup, defeating Bayern Munich in 1976 and Liverpool in 1978. In 1983, Anderlecht also won the UEFA Cup, beating Benfica in the final.
Anderlecht plays its home matches at the stadium named after Constant Vanden Stock, the club's long-serving president who guided its development for decades, although the ground is also sometimes known by a changing sponsorship name.
